Plan Your Trip
Nine decisions, and the order matters more than any of them.
Most people plan a Maldives trip backwards. They choose the villa, then discover that the atoll sets the transfer, the transfer sets the budget, and the flight’s arrival time decides whether the property was ever reachable that day. Our trip planner puts the nine decisions in the sequence that avoids redoing them.
What it costs, itemised rather than estimated. The room rate is about half of a resort week once the transfer, the 28.7% service charge and tax, green tax, excursions and drinks are added — our budget guide breaks four formats down line by line, from a guesthouse island at USD 1,100 to a luxury week above USD 12,000.
How long, and how many bases. Arrival and departure days are half days at best, which changes what a week contains. Our itineraries guide sets out patterns for four, seven, ten and fourteen nights, with three written day by day.
The practical pieces. Choosing a flight by arrival time rather than fare. A booking timeline that puts the transfer with the room. A packing list built around a rash guard and a 20 kg limit. What a standard insurance policy excludes, and what to arrange with a doctor before you go.
And the honest comparisons. Whether the Maldives is the right country at all, against ten alternatives — three of them written after visiting both sides, the rest structural and saying so.
